In 2005, we made our first ever (and pretty much our only) short film, One Man’s Trash. Much like Looking for Ms. Locklear, the film was an experiment. In this case, we wanted to see if we could tell a cohesive story with several characters and settings. With the exception of one scene, in which we needed some camera movement while we both were in frame, we shot the whole thing ourselves. It’s definitely amateurish, and we kept this one on the shelf for the past few years because we weren’t that proud of it. But, too many of you have asked about seeing it for us to ignore. Most recently, Lauren (Razom) asked about it on the Kommunity. Thanks to the power of the Kommunity, we’re bringing it back, just in time for Christmas.
So, what do you think? Was it worth the wait? Do you own a dancing Santa? Would you like to? Comment below.

To be honest, dancing Santas freak me out a little bit (as do certain other animatronic ‘creatures’), but I still enjoyed the film. It may not be your BEST work, but it made me smile, and I’m glad you finally decided to share it with us….I may have that dancing Santa song stuck in my head for a while….
Ha, Yeah I got to see it on one of your DVD Extras. Either the Locklear DVD or the Great American Road Trip DVD. Either way, it was just as good the second time! I can’t figure out why you aren’t proud of it…haha
My family use to have a dancing santa just like that one. It kind of creeped me out because i always felt like it was watching me…But it was festive, none the less. This was really funny, though. It was like seeing our families old dancing santa become a star!
Ummmm…..Grandma Brown has a tabletop dancing santa…not quite as scary as that one, but still the bane of Christmas at Grandma’s as all the kids want to play with it. Her santa rings a bell and it plays music. loudly.
Ha! I love it! I’ve seen a lot of “professional” stuff look a lot more “amateurish” than this. Great shots, including the pickup bed flopping open and I laughed when the “body” rolled up to the horrified kids. Also funny seeing you guys as gangsters. Credits should have included a cameo by “heart mug” but at the time you probably didn’t know how famous it was going to become! ******************************
Loved it! (Although I am not sure if a dancing Santa wopuld stand up to the elements in my home state of Minnesnowta).
It was great to finally see that video Ive wanted to see it for along. When i saw that pic from in on the site I was thinking what IS THIS I MUST SEE IT NOW AHHHHHHHHH. Now my dreams have come true and Im happy yeah!!
Thoroughly enjoyable, guys! I couldn’t help letting out a big belly laugh – BWHAH! – every time the tailgate did its thing. No reason to be uneasy about this one… I’d agree that it was a successful experiment. Thanks for sharing!
Haha, we were discussing how freaky dancing santas are just today xD They have one as the Greeter at one of the Asda (part of the Walmart family!) stores near here, he even has a name tag xD (I took a pic because I always take pix of silly stuff) One was singing a strange and creepy-sounding song, but when I tried to video him being creepy, he sang Jingle Bells….
The ones they sell at Asda, you can plug your mp3 player in and have Santa dance and sing whatever is on your mp3/iPod. Think of all the fun you could have with THAT xD
I am in total agreement with JoJo, I can’t see why you wouldn’t be proud of this film. It is quite entertaining and the twists in the plot was clever and funny! This is one of my favorite Rhett&Link offerings.
**************** Really nice work! I enjoyed it very much. I could hear an accent on Rhett at the beginning, and Link still looks funny without his glasses.
Great job, guys!!
Just look at all those positive comments, was I right or what! xDD
But seriously, this short film is the best I’ve ever seen, and I’m so thankful that you guys decided to post it. ^^
It’s hilarious, and I absolutely love the twist. It’s very original, and a great adaptation of your musical skills into a film.
You guys are amazing. >w<
Good job guys! I loved it and I am glad that you two put it ou there!
Hmmm…just realized that I saw a familiar scene…Rhett and Link on a pickup bed with a fake/robotic owl. Posted a pic on the Kommunity just for fun.
)
I came, I saw, I laughed, I joined Rhett&Link.com, I commented.
Thanks for all the laughs, guys. You’re my heroes. ?
LOL I about @$%& myself i have one of those in my living room right NOW! I told my wife to listen and she laughed so hard. My grand kids love the thing cause it has a Mic that you can use and talk out of the Santa.
That was a really cool short I didn’t think it was amateurish at all
Amateurish? Not proud of it? This was great! I loved it! Will the “Dancing Santa” song be on “Up To This Point”? Cuz I may just have to get it if it is.
I have no idea why you wouldn’t be proud of this! It’s great! I don’t think it’s “amateurish” in any way at all. The whole concept is fantastic. In fact, it’s really fun to see stuff like this, and the older videos like the one you showed on the Oedepis Rex Kast. That was REALLY entertaining. Haha! =D
Fantastic!!! I really enjoyed this. Great story line. Great twists. Great comedy. I want to see more of these short films from you guys! I too have been waiting a long time to see this one. It was well worth the wait!
Love the video guys! Mark my words, this will be a hit and climb the Rhett and Link Chart quickly!
I remember seeing this awhile ago… I loved it! For shooting the entire thing yourselves and playing multiple characters, its pretty darn amazing! Ya gotta give yourselves some credit. I loved the ending btw! Very creative!
I really liked it, nice job guys. I don’t think you needed to be ashamed of it. And though the dancing Santa was entertaining in this video I would not want to own one, way too creepy.
I should clarify about this film being amateurish. In terms of web video, this is more calculated and detailed than most of our current work. But, in the world of film, alongside other well-crafted films, this has a very “first film” feel to it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled that y’all like it!
Awesome!!! Ahh…. yeah I have’t seen this yet
Where would I have found it ??
We’ll I’m glad you guys blogged it
It was GREAT, I can definitely see HOW MUCH WORK actually went in to it have to shoot it all by urselves… phweeeewww!!!
Love it guys!! GREAT JOB!!!!!!!
This little film made me smile. I don’t own a dancing santa, but I have encountered one at a friends house.
I think you guys are too modest about this one – I really really liked it! Made me smile too.
The video is really funny. As a child my Husbands family had a dancing Santa, and he and his brothers and sisters had many adventures with the Santa. Their stories are hilarious. We have a small dancing Santa now that my two-year old carries around the house. I dont know what it is about Gardners and dancing Santa’s. I have not been able to find a huge one though. Believe me – it is a family goal.
This was pretty good for a very very very short film. Why don’t they make movies like this? You have a beginning middle and end wa la done.
I had my 8 year old watch with me. The look on his face when the gangsters where putting the “dead body” in the trash kind of freaked him out. I had him watch the whole film because I knew the ending. Then the part when the body rolled into the children was another wide eyed look. When Santa pooped up he was ok and started to laugh. He wanted to watch it again an again.
I liked it a lot and the song was a good way to end.
I thought it was well done- made me smile.
I did have a question. Throwing the body in the back of the truck—- happy happenstance or planned when it doesn’t make it in the first time?
That’s just great, guys!
Make more of these short films!
First film? This looked big budget with a Rolls Royce! But now that I think about it, I don’t remember the henchmen in the Sopranos driving such a nice car. Apparently crime in Apex pays better than I thought.
Good fun. I enjoyed it.
Congratulations on all of your awards, and as for the dancing Santa, he is very familiar. My late grandmother liked to do singalongs with ours at Christmas. I have a pic of the 2 of them together.
