Yawn Tag Game

We’re back with a new video! And we plan on releasing one every Monday. Since releasing “Ultimate Caption Fail” back in January, many mythical beasts have been calling for a sequel. So here it is. Enjoy and share!

We shot this video in the Joke Productions offices–where Commercial Kings was made–back in September before heading back to North Carolina before heading back to LA.

Mythical Road Trip Updates

The Mythical Shoe continues to turn heads and spawn questions across America, and that head-turning and question-asking is about to go global. Some of you early adopters who bought the Mythical Shoe in the first couple of weeks were able to take advantage of a temporary loophole where shipping to ALL countries was a meager six dollars. But very soon after that, we realized that many countries (especially those in the EU) were charging huge fees which made international shipping extremely impractical and expensive. As a result, we had to temporarily limit Mythical Shoe shipping to the good ol’ USA. But now, after months of trying to find a way around these fees, our friends at Tweak have negotiated them down to the lowest possible price. We are happy to announce that the Mythical Shoe is now shipping to the following countries (with more to follow in the future, we hope): Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

As you’ll see, international shipping isn’t cheap. But we wanted to make the Mythical Shoe available to as many Mythical Beasts as possible.  Go get yours now!

Got Mail?

Since the launch of the RhettandLinKommunity one year ago and the self-identification of said Kommunity as the Mythical Beasts, our job as Internetainers has only gotten more fun. It’s been incredible interacting with you, both online and in person at places like VidCon, as well as being able to see your Mythical Kreations on the Kommunity. I mean, we designed a SHOE together people! That had never been done before!

As this Mythical Beast kingdom continues to grow, we, your fearless leaders, want to begin to bring even more clarity to what it means to be a Mythical Beast. Sure, the traditional understanding of being a Mythical Beast is that it just means you’re a fan of the work of a couple of nuts from North Carolina. But that’s only the starting point. Being a Mythical Beast means “being your Mythical BEST“. Whenever you do stuff that helps expand the reaches of Mythical Beastliness around the world, like share our latest video or download our latest song, we thank you for being your Mythical Best. But being your Mythical Best can’t simply be about furthering our Internetainment around the world. That’s much too RhettandLink-centric for our taste. So what does it really mean?

Our working definition is that being your Mythical Best is “doing something awesome with someone else’s interest in mind.” So, in an effort to recognize and propagate Mythical Beastliness around the world, we’re going to begin recognizing people who are being their Mythical Best. It’s called the “Mythical Best Award”, and we’ll be presenting it here on the site every week.

And, we’re going a step further. We’re actually having a Mythical Beast bring us that news each week. You may already know Shawna Howson from her popular YouTube vlog channel, Nanalew. Shawna isn’t just a vlogger, she’s also a published writer/poet, and a Canadian (Canadians automatically get Mythical points because they’re naturally funny).

But before Shawna begins presenting the Mythical Best Award starting next week, we’re breaking the seal on things by awarding her with the first ever Mythical Best Award. How has Shawna been her Mythical Best? Well, recently, she and a couple of other YouTube vloggers took part in a project called World Vision Vloggers, where they traveled to Africa to meet the needs of the people there and highlight the work happening with struggling communities. You’ve read enough already, so check out one of the vlogs from Shawna herself where she describes a part of her trip:

As we hope you’ve noticed, we’ve done our best to make these vlog updates as Internetaining as possible. Our latest Tweak Mythical Shoe update comes to you from us lost in the woods.

Your ideas have been amazing in both quantity and quality. We’d love to hear your final thoughts on what could make the Mythical Shoe truly mythical. As we mentioned in the video, the next update you see from us will actually feature a finished Mythical Shoe! The Invisible Train

Before you begin thinking about whether or not you’d like to watch a video that features Bacon Flops, just do it.  Watch it.  Now.

The day that every Internetainer dreams of has finally come for us.  We’re gonna have an official shoe.  Okay…maybe we didn’t anticipate this, but we sure do think it’s cool.  This, ladies and gents, is a Kommunity Building Exercise on steroids.  Thanks to an incredibly adventurous and innovative new shoe company, Tweak, we (that means YOU and all the Mythical Beasts) will be designing the Mythical Shoe over the coming weeks.  And, just as a reminder…this Mythical Shoe is 100% real.  You’ll be able to put it on your real feet, not just your mythical ones.

Each week for the next few weeks, we’ll have a prompt to get you thinking.  Just head over to our Facebook page and start contributing.  You can follow this week’s prompt, which is the question, “What do you want the Mythical Shoe to say about you?”, or you can add videos/photos/text of just about whatever you’d like to get us all thinking of some amazing ideas for the Mythical Shoe.

Project Lionelize Yourself

One of the best things about the Kommunity is that it’s yours, not ours.  It’s a world that you shape.  When you are your mythical best, the Kommunity is its mythical best.  Allow us to illustrate with a kase study:  our name.

The Kommunity is not even one year old yet, but it’s tough to remember a time when we weren’t “Mythical Beasts.”  It’s engrained in our mythology.  But this was not always so.  Only because of…*jabs index finger directly at lens* YOU…it now is:

• Last July, Barb the Gaelic ThistleFish asked the question: What Should We Call Ourselves? A mythical discussion ensued.  (You can even go back to the discussion and find the exact person who came up with the name!)
• Then you all voted.
• We revealed YOUR verdict in this live Kast.  We are mythical beasts.                     (And here’s a side question for discussion in ReKaps: when was the phrase “mythical best” first used?)
• Then in September, Margaret the Wood Sprite asked:  Should we design a logo for our new name? Your answer was Yes!, so…
• We invited all mythical beasts to help us conceptualize the official mascot of the Kommunity:  What does a Randler look like? Many mythical contributions were made–both in concept and design.
• We enjoyed them all, loved two, and then, as we were designing our artwork for Up To This Point, we settled on one.  Eve the Dextria’s detailed Randler concept was given a home in three places in our album art, designed by Kendrick Kidd.
• We sent her a signed copy.
• And the saga continues…this is just one kase study amongst many great things that have happened on the Komm because of beasts like you…

So thanks to YOU, beast.  And a special thanks to the K-Mods who continually prove themselves invaluable.

If you are new to the Komm, watch the Puck and the Liger’s 10 Steps to Become a Mythical Beast.  And then watch Philip the Groffgryphon rally unnamed beasts while simultaneously channeling Mister Rogers (below).

And we don’t won’t to reveal the details yet…but we’ve got something in the works that will be really fun for all Mythical Beasts…something that–in similar fashion as our name–YOU will help shape.  Stay tuned!
