Since the launch of the RhettandLinKommunity one year ago and the self-identification of said Kommunity as the Mythical Beasts, our job as Internetainers has only gotten more fun. It’s been incredible interacting with you, both online and in person at places like VidCon, as well as being able to see your Mythical Kreations on the Kommunity. I mean, we designed a SHOE together people! That had never been done before!
As this Mythical Beast kingdom continues to grow, we, your fearless leaders, want to begin to bring even more clarity to what it means to be a Mythical Beast. Sure, the traditional understanding of being a Mythical Beast is that it just means you’re a fan of the work of a couple of nuts from North Carolina. But that’s only the starting point. Being a Mythical Beast means “being your Mythical BEST“. Whenever you do stuff that helps expand the reaches of Mythical Beastliness around the world, like share our latest video or download our latest song, we thank you for being your Mythical Best. But being your Mythical Best can’t simply be about furthering our Internetainment around the world. That’s much too RhettandLink-centric for our taste. So what does it really mean?
Our working definition is that being your Mythical Best is “doing something awesome with someone else’s interest in mind.” So, in an effort to recognize and propagate Mythical Beastliness around the world, we’re going to begin recognizing people who are being their Mythical Best. It’s called the “Mythical Best Award”, and we’ll be presenting it here on the site every week.
And, we’re going a step further. We’re actually having a Mythical Beast bring us that news each week. You may already know Shawna Howson from her popular YouTube vlog channel, Nanalew. Shawna isn’t just a vlogger, she’s also a published writer/poet, and a Canadian (Canadians automatically get Mythical points because they’re naturally funny).
But before Shawna begins presenting the Mythical Best Award starting next week, we’re breaking the seal on things by awarding her with the first ever Mythical Best Award. How has Shawna been her Mythical Best? Well, recently, she and a couple of other YouTube vloggers took part in a project called World Vision Vloggers, where they traveled to Africa to meet the needs of the people there and highlight the work happening with struggling communities. You’ve read enough already, so check out one of the vlogs from Shawna herself where she describes a part of her trip:
