One of the most exciting aspects of producing our iLoveLocalCommercials series is the unexpected nature of the job. We’re learning that we can plan all we want, but we never truly know what we’re gonna get until we’re actually there. And then, the pressure is on. Within 36 hours, we’ve gotta have another RhettandLinKommercial “in the can.”
It’s kinda like we’re internetainment paratroopers, dropping in to unknown battlezones across the US…and our next LZ was Cullman Liquidation in Cullman, Alabama. We’ll be releasing the actual commercial tomorrow. But I wanted to go ahead and give you a window into our experience “on the ground” by sharing our behind-the-scenes video today.
At Cullman Liquidation, you’re bound to find the perfect mobile home–unless you’re looking for a new one. These are all used. We knew this could be a fun commercial. On the plane ride from Sioux City to Birmingham, we had been tossing around the slogan “As American as Mobile Homes.” It had a nice ring to it. If nothing else hit us, we’d run with that concept.
We made a quick pit stop at Wal Mart and grabbed an American flag and some patriotic shirts and hats. But once we got on site, we met the Cullman Liquidators and new ideas began to formulate. Enjoy the experience along with us in this latest making-of episode:
Who knew that selling used mobile homes ranks up there with Alaskan king crab fishing and homeschooling as one of the world’s most dangerous professions? Stay tuned for the commercial release tomorrow!
Leave a comment: what direction would you have taken the commercial? What was your favorite part of this episode? And be sure to nominate your favorite local business for a free RhettandLinKommercial. We’re sifting through the list!

LOL, seems like it’ll be hardcore!
stay tuned!
This guy is great! He looks to be in good shape for all the fights he has survived. Can you black out some teeth so he looks more worn?
Oh its nice to know that Middle-Of-Nowhere Alabama does Used Mobile Home sales the same way as Middle-Of-Nowhere Northern Ireland does bahahaha. My office is in one of our “trailers” (as you call them. We call them “Beach Lodges”, or “Park Homes”. Makes them sound so much more awesome bahaha) too xD However, we have far less dead animals in our office xD
Mobile homes in Northern Ireland huh?
Yep. Northern Ireland is where I am right now. Have also sold them in North Wales, East Yorkshire (England) and Essex (England). Always in the middle of nowhere lol.
Once you see the commercial tomorrow, you should create an Irish version of it, Jess!
I’ll see what I can do Link, I was thinking the very same thing – I actually leave Ireland on Friday, tomorrow is my last day of work! But I suppose they wouldnt notice me making a video…they didnt even notice that time I turned up dressed as a wizard, never mind that I videoed the whole day… xD
Looks like it’s going to be epic! So much walking…and then there’s the pointing! I love that you’re selling something by telling people you don’t care whether they buy it or not. Can’t wait to see it tomorrow.
Very cool! Can’t wait to see the commercial! Hmm..this just made me realize I’ve never been inside a mobile home. Is that weird? Lol…anyways, I’m sure the commercial will be great! =)
You guys are whacked……….this is a good thing. lol
I liked the fox’s part. It could have been like their mascot.
Wow, it’s the “Soup Nazi” of trailer homes! NO HOME FOR YOU! Can’t wait to see the full commercial!
Wow. This will be EPIC!
“…Because walking and pointing is epic.
this is great!! favorite parts are when he talks about refusing to sell to stupid people and when he tells about getting hit by his wife’s boyfriend!!
I think this is the funniest local commercial yet.
Loved it. Isn’t Cullman famous for being Hank Williams’ hometown?
Cullman is 20 minutes from my home! I promise that not all Alabamians have stuffed dead wildlife in their offices. Wonder how you all liked the “white sauce” and the Alabama barbecue. I know that it’s the “strangest thing you’ve seen in all your barbecue days” (According to your song, of course). Keep up the good work! My stepsons, my husband, and myself love your videos. Something we can let the boys watch without having to “monitor” it. You are both hilarious!
Robert Lee is right. It may sound harsh, but knowing when to turn away bad business isessential to success (no matter what business you may be in). The best people to sell trailers (or mobilehomes) to are people who see themselves as “moving up” … not to complainers or people who cannot afford them. The last thing he wants is to have to take one back. I’m sure he learned this lesson the hard way. We have.
Robert Lee, your soooooo cute, email me , been looking for a cutie like you for a long long time.
