Nature’s Friend

Brian Layman (The eHermit)\

While my business partner and amigo, Link, is up in NYC living the high life of a semi-famous internet star, mixing and mingling at ritzy film festivals, I’m at home in North Carolina, saving animals. During a visit to my brother’s house today, I withstood the fury of a misguided hummingbird, setting him free to continue humming indefinitely. My brother, who does not claim to be even a semi-professional videographer or commentator, is behind the camera, saying “dude”. That’s his son at the beginning, my nephew.

Rhett Saves Hummingbird from Rhett and Link on Vimeo.

I also killed a venomous snake today. No video of that. I didn’t want any of you to accuse me of animal cruelty.

Bravo. Natures friend… Just curious, but would you do the same for a horsefly?

I went to a monastery one time and all the monks were trying to figure out a way to free a horsefly from their home. They asked my husband and I if we had any ideas, because they had taken a vow not to hurt any living creature unless in self defense or for food. Rhett the monk? Or would it be a horsefly-ish dinner? Hmmm…something to ponder.

if it was venemous, then why not?

I TOTALLY get the whole dead snake thing…
    v-e-n-o-m-o-u-s snake + kids = serious trouble.
Good call, Rhett, it had to be done.

i bet that actually if rhett would have just stuck his hand out to the bird, rhetts inner Mary Poppins would have come out and the bird would jump on his hand, be carried outside, give rhett a kiss on the cheek and fly away singing a song.

    man i’m weird.

Wow you’re just like that Crocodile Hunter dude but with more ferocious animals. You need to pitch this idea to Animal Planet Rhett McLaughlin Hummingbird Hunter.

I’d watch it except I only get 4 TV Chanels (1 French) by choice as I would rather not be distracted by wasteful time fillers. I save my valuable time for watching The Kast and maybe 1 – 2 hrs of other TV a week.

Kudos on catching the hummingbird! I’d be one of those people that would run the other direction in fear of the bird trying to attack me.

As far as killing the snake goes…what did it do to deserve such a fate? I don’t have a problem with it being dead or anything, I’m just curious. :-)

    Woohooo Rhett!
    Way to be a…animalitarian!

    This just in:

The hummingbird was freed, only to have been snatched by Lobo the wolf…

good job to your non-videographer brother. I’d be shaking (or in my own lingo: “Doing a DC Talk video”)

I had a humming bird come up to our feeder two days ago, it then say me sitting near by. flew over, peed on me and flew a way.

I was rather insulted. OK so it wasn’t a name brand hummingbird feedmix, but still…

    Snake-killer!

(I, on the other hand would have chosen an alternate route like cowering in the corner and peeing my pants)

Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best.

w00t Rhett! Who needs fancy-pansy film festivals when you can save animals???

(i wish i was at the film festival too, don’t get me wrong…)

Great Job. Now, i knew you were tall, but i didn’t know you were that tall! (about 00:17 minutes in) (17 Seconds) You compared to the door Frame….wow. HaHa. I know you aren’t that tall! Great job again Rhett. I bet Link’s Jealous!

    JoJo (soccerbooy2011)

    Awesome! Cool video Rhett! :-)

    Anna

    WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!

    Indeed. :D

    CoffeeIshMehMistress

WOW! Pretty cool, I loved the use of the two nets. You’ve rescued an alligator turtle and now a hummingbird, quite a menagerie, Rhett…you’re like Dr. Doolittle, man!

As for the venomous snake…being from east Texas I say the only good venomous snake is a dead one, if you ask me. I salute your courage!

    Mamacitax7

I’d rather have a hummingbird in my yard than a venomous snake, anyway. Good job..

    mcmo

Wow! I’m consistently impressed by you guys. What’s next? Bear fighting worthy of 2 Kings?

    Alicia

    good job rhett.
