NOTE: The Quest for the Seven Keys wrapped up in December 2008. Steven “Funkmaster Flash” Blower won it all. We flew to Ohio and performed a concert. JGHue posted video of it!
Welcome to our explanation of the Quest for the 7 Keys contest. Before hearing more about the Quest, it’s important to understand a few things.

The RhettandLinKast Live
We have a live web show called the RhettandLinKast Live, which airs live every Thursday at 9PM EST (6PM PST, 8PM Central, 2AM GMT) at RhettandLink.com/live. It’s an interactive show where you can text chat with audience members in the chatroom or even call-in or Skype-in to the show. The show features live song performances, live video and phone guests, comedy segments, etc. If you haven’t watch it yet, shame on you. We forgive you and ask you to tune in this Thursday.
Community Building Exercises
On our show, we have a monthly Community Building Exercise, where we ask the audience to make a video response to a particular video of ours. A new CBE is announced on the first Thursday of each month during the RhettandLinKast Live. Specific guidelines for each CBE are announced during the show. For each CBE, there are 2-3 “Grand Prize Winners”. Grand Prizes are usually memorabilia from Rhett&Link videos. For an example of a CBE, read this blog entry for the March CBE (make sure you read the second half of the blog).
Secret Songs
The Grand Prize Winners are not the only winners, however. Beginning with the February CBE and continuing for seven months total, the general prize for participating will be a secret song. Collecting these secret songs is the only way to participate in the Quest for the 7 Keys. Continue reading to learn why it’s NEVER too late to begin collecting the secret songs, even if you missed a CBE.
Weekly Trivia Game
Also, during every RhettandLinKast Live, we will be playing a live trivia game. We will be asking one question, and answers will be sent as an email to rlkanswer@gmail.com, with the subject line being the answer. The first person to correctly answer the question (as determined by the timestamp in our gmail inbox) wins the previous month’s secret song. Additionally, once a month, on an unspecified show, the trivia game winner will receive every secret song from the past.
What’s in a Secret Song?
NOTICE: The following language is intentionally mysterious and metaphorical. Within each secret song, there is a key. Each key opens the lock to a door. Behind each door, there is a clue. When these 7 clues are considered together, they constitute the ultimate key. The ultimate key opens the ultimate door. The first person to open the ultimate door and follow the correct steps wins the ultimate prize.
The Ultimate Prize
The Ultimate Prize is a concert by Rhett&Link for you and your friends in your home or at a location of your choice. If we can, we’ll probably broadcast it live on the internet as a special RhettandLinKast Live. In the least, we’ll record it and create a video so others can see what happened.
Important Notes
Need for All Seven Keys: You do not need all 7 clues to decipher the ultimate key, so it’s not completely necessary to have all 7 keys. The first key is probably the least important, but the remaining keys vary in importance. A few of the keys are absolutely necessary to decipher the ultimate key. However, the only way to guarantee your best shot at deciphering the ultimate key is to have all 7 clues.
Sharing of Keys, Clues, Etc.: There are no rules pertaining to sharing or selling information you have about the songs, keys, doors, or clues. In fact, some audience members have already hinted that they are forming teams to work together by location, so one of them will win the ultimate prize and share the Rhett&Link concert. However, you are sharing this information at your own risk.
Difficulty in Finding Keys, Clues, or Doors: This Quest is intentionally difficult. However, as you collect more secret songs, it should become easier to find the keys and doors. Don’t be discouraged if you have no idea where the key is in the song, or if you can’t figure out what to do with the key once you have it. If you continue the Quest, it should become increasingly clear.
