SLCC Barbering & Cosmetology Commercial

I (Link) always get nervous when it’s haircut time.  My hands sweat on the drive over to the–err–salon.  I fidget in the waiting room.  I rehearse in my head the “This-is-what-I want-my-hair-to-look-like” speech.  You’d think I was going in for surgery.  Perhaps I’m revealing my vanity here, but the sheer and absolute lack of control associated with the whole process is debilitating.  I mean, I could come out of the chair looking like this.

Little did I know that our iLoveLocalCommercial trip to Salt Lake City, Utah would be such a…horrific therapeutic experience!

It’s another RhettandLinKommercial brought to you by Microbilt!  “Salt Lake Community College, Barbering and Cosmetology School*
*an Unlicensed Salon.

If you’re in the Salt Lake area, be sure to drop in and take advantage of their economical-and-unlicensed offerings.  Tell em Rhett&Link sent you.  If your resulting haircut is lacking; remember- “It’s only two dollars.”  *Turns to camera and smiles.*

HOW WE SELL HAIRCUTS AND TWO-YEAR DEGREES

As is our custom, we hit the ground running at Salt Lake Community.  We had to.  Our flights back to N.C. were already booked 48 hours later.  With basically zero concept in our brains, we pulled in to the SLCC parking lot.  Would inspiration strike?  How would this all come together?  I was nervous!  In hindsight, it was classic haircut deja-vu.

Enjoy this Behind-the-scenes episode.  This is how it all went down:

This one is my favorite so far. Course $2 is a bit pricey to me, I’ve been cutting my hair with a FlowBee for 16 yrs.

Haha!!! This commercial is awesome and funny! My favorite parts were the lines, “I really need the practice,” and “Your hairdo is only limited by your imagination, and by how far along we are in the semester.”

My question is, did you get hair cuts from them? Did you have to pay the $2?

I don’t go to the salon to get my hair cut anymore. Not many people really know how to handle curly hair, so I just trim it myself.

eekkK! GO UTAH! Thanks for going to utah guys…of coarse it wasn’t as cold as when you went to sundance! Good job!

My favorite line was about how far they were in the semester and my favorite part was the pictures of all the haircuts. I didn’t know there was a name for Rhett’s hair!

I also get nervous trying to describe what I want my hair to look like and I’m also too much of a wuss to tell them when I don’t like it. So now I just take pictures.

I’m LDS. I grew up in Utah. AND I own one of those nifty styling heads. Her name is Headwina and she is a beloved member of our family. Going to DI and sporting the white shirts and tags makes this commercial hysterical on many levels for me. Good Job.

Oh my goodness, I wish I had a local commercial like this playing in my area! That was hilarious! Those girls are going to be getting a LOT of practice with the business they’ll pick up from this commercial! Loved the retro looking pictures of the various styles (“the bowlcut.”)

Favorite behind-the-scenes bit–the Q-Bert stairs! Ha! Great job, guys!

As one of your biggest LDS fans, I must say I was anxious when I heard you were taking the “Mormon” angle on this commercial, but I think you played it off well! Thanks for not taking any obvious jabs at us Mormons in the making of this commercial!

(and like Miss EC, I too enjoyed the Q-Bert stairs. I totally thought the same thing before you said it!) :)

I think I’m gonna have to side with everyone else on this one… It was good! I especially enjoyed the behind the scenes bit. “Our degrees are $2.00!”
