Kansas City Barbecue? Puhleeeese. My wife grew up in KC and when she got her first taste of Alston Bridges BBQ in Shelby, she finally knew what real BBQ was. Not smothered and cooked to death with sickeningly sweet sludge. KC Masterpiece? More like KC Masterbate.

This is terrific!! Great job, guys. And you're right, we Yankees use barbecue as a verb. Go figure. And sometimes we make "BBQ" out of ground beef and serve it on a bun. There's ketchup involved. Horrible, I know. Personally I prefer the vinegar based barbecue but it's all good!

You kinda forgot Virginia. Once you get out of the DC area, Virginia is most assuredly the South. Think bluegrass music from the Blue Ridge; Richmond as the capital of the confederacy, etc.
Our BBQ is much like eastern North Carolina's, but with a little tomato. Great song.

Damn straight that KC Masterpiece ain't nothing for BBQ - that's just nationally-marketed, mass-produced crap...the lowest common denominator for the whole country...
That said (and I'll say this!) NC BBQ hasn't got ANYTHING on good ol Kansas City BBQ. Skip your vinegary crap and pour on that sweet, sweet KC BBQ lovin'. Try Fiorella's Jack Stack if you can get it where you live...

Love the song! Your right NC does have the best BBQ! I live in florida now and they don't have a clue how to make BBQ here! My favorite restaurants are Carolina Smokehouse in Cashiers, NC. Hannah's BBQ in Claremont,NC. If you find yourself in Memphis, TN the best is McNeely's BBQ. Much better than the dry rub at the rendevous.

This Yankee knows BBQ and I love it all. Even have a Brinkmann smoker out back. I'm pretty good at smoking Brisket and learned a few tips in Memphis. Whenever I stoke up the smoker, my hand automatically curls up and I'm forced to put a beer in it. Strange how that happens.

Song is awesome.

Okay now did you know the very last Confederate soliders to surrender were from FLORIDA. I was raised in Miami (admittedly not the south) where ribs are BBQ. I have still not been able to convince my South Carolina born and bred husband that Florida is southern, just talk to a North Florida native, they may make you a believer.

The best BBQ is Eastern NC! Here's why. It is not just cooked pork without any smokey flavor, as you often find in Western NC, Alabama, or Georgia. It also has spices incorporated in the meat, such as vinegar, red peper, salt, pepper, delicately imparting flavorful busts of joy., especially at Smithfield BBQ restaurants, which is a local NC chain throughout the eastern part of the state.
And that's all that I have to say about that.
